Admiral Sports and the New York Cosmos have reunited to launch a special retro capsule collection celebrating one of football’s most iconic eras. This collection brings back the legendary 1979 home and away kits, alongside a selection of lifestyle apparel that blends vintage aesthetics with modern streetwear influences.
The highlight of the collection is the meticulously recreated 1979 home and away jerseys. The home kit, in crisp white with navy and mustard-yellow striped collars, mirrors the jersey worn by legends like Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinaglia, and Carlos Alberto Torres. The navy away kit, with contrasting yellow and white accents, retains the classic elegance that once dazzled crowds across the United States.
Beyond the jerseys, the collection extends into lifestyle fashion, offering a full tracksuit in the club’s original green and yellow colours, as well as a range of graphic T-shirts, fan shirts, and a blackout range—an homage to New York’s vibrant streetwear culture. This blend of retro football aesthetics with contemporary style ensures that both longtime supporters and new fans can connect with the Cosmos’ legendary past.
Admiral, the British heritage football brand known for its bold and innovative designs, became part of the Cosmos legacy in 1979. As the official kit supplier, Admiral introduced a striking navy colourway, replacing the team’s secondary green in a collaboration with Ralph Lauren. This iconic shift bridged the gap between football and fashion, proving the Cosmos were ahead of their time, both on and off the pitch.
The late ‘70s were a golden age for the New York Cosmos. Their dominance in the NASL, combined with their off-field glamour, made them football’s first true “fashion club.” Celebrity fans flocked to their games, while their star-studded lineup helped elevate the beautiful game in the United States.
