Umbro, a pioneer in British sportswear with an indelible link to football culture, celebrates its 100th anniversary in style by partnering once again with luxury streetwear brand Aries. This third instalment of their collaboration pays homage to Umbro’s storied past and its deep-rooted association with world football. As Euro 2024 approaches, the Aries x Umbro collection, a “red, white, and blue” themed ensemble, epitomises the fusion of athletic tradition and contemporary fashion.

Founded in 1924, Umbro has become synonymous with football in the UK. The brand’s journey began in Manchester, where it quickly established itself as a premier manufacturer of football kits. Umbro’s “Double Diamond” logo has graced the kits of legendary clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur and national teams including England and Brazil, embedding itself into the fabric of football history. Over the decades, Umbro has been at the forefront of football culture, not just as a sportswear brand but as a lifestyle symbol – Liam Gallagher famously wore an Umbro top on stage during Oasis’s legendary Maine Road gig, cementing the brand’s status as a symbol of 90s British culture.
Aries, a luxury streetwear brand, was founded by Sofia Prantera, a creative force known for her work with Silas and Holmes. Aries’ non-gendered, high-fashion approach is steeped in a love for trash culture, outsider art, and meticulous garment construction. The brand’s ethos is rooted in cultural collaborations, which are expressed through diverse mediums including self-published books, art shows, and exhibitions. Aries’ partnership with Umbro exemplifies its dedication to blending high fashion with accessible streetwear, creating pieces that are both collectible and wearable.

The latest Aries x Umbro collaboration is a meticulously crafted collection that celebrates Umbro’s centennial. Drawing inspiration from Umbro’s extensive football archives, the collection features classic football jerseys, goalkeeper jerseys, shorts, and exclusive accessories. Each piece is designed to honour the heritage and evolution of football fashion.
The collection’s highlight includes two short sleeve football jerseys and a long sleeve goalkeeper jersey. The jerseys, available in traditional red and white, feature the Aries “A-Rose” graphic as an all-over rose print, symbolising the “English Rose”. The iconic “Aries Temple” logo and Umbro’s “Double Diamond” logo adorn the chest, a nod to the collaboration’s blend of streetwear and athletic tradition.
“If you kill it, it will come back stronger”
A standout piece is the limited-edition navy-blue lace football jersey, exclusive to Aries with only 100 pieces available. This “centenary” shirt epitomises the collection’s exclusivity and collectible nature. The goalkeeper jersey, with its tonal black print of mythical lions, pays tribute to England’s storied history with the legendary creature, further enriched by Aries’ signature mythological motifs hidden within the print including the Latin motto; “If you kill it, it will come back stronger”.
The collection’s design intricacies include the “Centenary” graphic on the back of all jerseys, combining Aries x Umbro’s collaborative font and Umbro’s “Double Diamond” logo, encapsulating the essence of this landmark collaboration.
The Aries x Umbro centenary collection launches on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, perfectly timed for the kickoff of the Euros 2024. Fans can purchase the collection online at www.ariesarise.com and at the Aries Flagship Store on Great Pulteney Street in London. The collection will also be available at global stockists including Slam Jam, END, Goodhood, GR8, and H Beauty & Youth.
