Racing Santander – Promotion 2025–26, an A5 photo zine featuring over 50 striking film photographs across 52 pages by photographer Varrager, documenting Real Racing Club de Santander’s extraordinary journey back to La Liga.
One of the ten founding clubs of La Liga, Racing Santander’s story is about far more than football heritage. It is a story of survival, identity and unwavering loyalty. At the end of the 2011–12 season, the club began a dramatic collapse under disastrous ownership, falling from Spain’s top flight into the second division, then the third, and dangerously close to the fourth.
As the club unravelled, it was the supporters who refused to let it disappear.
This photographic series follows Racing’s road back through the perspective of La Gradona, the club’s legendary supporters’ stand. Rather than focusing on the action on the pitch, Varrager turns his camera toward the people, capturing the emotion, tension and atmosphere that carried the club through its darkest years and into revival.
The result is a powerful visual study of football’s deeper meaning: community, resistance and belonging.
By the end of the 2025–26 season, Racing had completed its return. On promotion day, as throughout recent years, Estadio El Sardinero was packed with 22,000 fans. The noise, emotion and energy made it feel like history unfolding in real time.
