Marseille – Aux Armes documents one of football’s most distinctive supporter cultures through intimate photography and thoughtful observation. Guirec Munier explores the visual language that surrounds Olympique de Marseille: murals, graffiti, stickers, shirt culture and the everyday spaces where football is woven into the identity of the city.
From the narrow streets of Le Panier to the Vieux-Port, the beaches of Les Catalans and Boulevard Michelet leading to the iconic Stade Vélodrome, the images reveal a city where football is inseparable from daily life. Marseille’s support is rooted in working-class pride, multicultural identity and devotion to OM. Here, the club is more than a team; it is part of the city’s character, its history and its voice.
The title, Aux Armes (“To Arms”), draws from the legendary chant that echoes around the Vélodrome – “Aux Armes, nous sommes les Marseillais…” – one of the defining sounds of French football. It also reflects Marseille’s enduring spirit of resistance, collective pride and fierce local identity.
