London based photographer Barley Nimmo teams up with football culture expert Martino Simcik Arese to “explore the true Italy.”
Together they have put together what they describe as a unique high quality publication, packed with pictures and stories.
Palla, a limited edition 135 page coffee table book, is the result of their efforts to report on the Italian football they know and love, to get “beneath the surface.”
“Despite the country’s significant impact on football culture, we felt there was a real lack of stories exploring the true Italy,” says Barley Nimmo.
“We went about finding stories, writers, and visual artists from our network in the UK and Italy,” he said.
“We wanted to create a book which could sit on your coffee table at home and be a real statement piece. We really wanted to go beyond the surface level of Serie A and Football Italia.”
With meticulously chosen wide ranging material, Palla covers everything from football derbies in Tuscany that date back to the 1400s to the final ever interview with Lazio’s leader of the Irriducibili, Fabrizo ‘Diabolik’ Piscitelli.
“We’ve had the opportunity to work with so many ridiculously talented people,” said Nimmo. “The final result, of it arriving at people’s doors, has been brilliant to see.”
