Napoli won their first Serie A title for 33 years as they drew with Udinese to spark wild celebrations back in Naples.
Napoli winning the Scudetto is something fan and photographer Andrea Ardolino has dreamed about since he was a child, his unique black and white photographs now capturing those euphoric moments of joy as Napoli fans piled into the streets the Naples.
“When the referee was about to blow his whistle I moved away from the group of friends I was watching the game with onto the balcony and looked out at the city…
“The final whistle went and in an instant the streets caught fire. I saw the scenes that I had dreamed many times but that I had never experienced – smoke bombs on earth, the fireworks lit up the sky but also lit up my whole heart.
“A lot of scenes that I have experienced in these years have come to my mind and for I don’t know how long I have remained motionless. Only at one point I hugged my friends and called my father saying “dad we did it”. My father watched me grow up dreaming of this moment I called him as if to tell him “I’m aware of it, it’s all true, we did it, we did it.”
In the days and weeks that preceded, Ardolino spoke of the city being ready to ‘explode,’ and the his photographs capture those historic moments of pure passion and joy.

Napoli last won the league in 1990, with Diego Maradona leading the line. Maradona’s status as a God on in Naples in clear to see. The street is filled with murals, statues and fans’ tattoos dedicated the the former Napoli number 10.
