Historic Newcastle United photographs from the club’s Edwardian glory days are to go under the hammer later this week.
The leather bound album, contains 62 silver gelatin photographic prints from seasons 1905-06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11.
The album includes photographs of the team, management and support staff relaxing on team excursions and participating in training sessions.
Newcastle United are today considered one of the richest clubs in world football following Mike Ashley’s sale for a reported £305 million to a Saudi-led consortium in October 2021.
The Edwardian period was a golden age for Newcastle United, winning the First Division in 1904-05, 1906-07, 1908-09 and reaching the FA Cup final five times between 1905 and 1911, winning it in 1910.
Some of the portraits appear to be individually signed in autograph form by the players themselves in pencil under each corresponding portrait.
It is believed these photograph albums were presented to the players and the support staff c1910/1911. This album was given to then club Director Robert Oliver and has been in the family ever since.
The Newcastle United photo album will feature in this week’s Ryedale Auctioneers’ Country House Sale, which will take place on Thursday, June 23rd. Live online bidding is available via The Saleroom.
