Promotion, Passion, and Unity
In Torre Annunziata, support for Savoia 1908 runs through generations. It is visible across the city and witnessed strongest on matchdays at the Stadio Alfredo Giraud.
Italian photojournalist Imma Rhamely Borrelli documents a decisive moment: Savoia’s 3-0 win over Igea Virtus on April 19, 2026, helping lead the club to promotion to Serie C. Her images focus on the crowd and the atmosphere in the stands as much as the result – capturing the intensity, identity, and loyalty that define the club’s culture.

‘Savoia, the biancoscudati of Torre Annunziata‘
“The passion for Savoia is not just a feeling; it is a deep bond that unites generations, a cultural heritage of the city of Torre Annunziata passed down from father to son. Walking through the streets of Torre Annunziata proves it: while the city retains the charm of another era, stickers everywhere remind you of a shared sense of belonging and devotion.
Savoia is one of the oldest football clubs in southern Italy. The first “biancoscudata” (White Shield) club was founded on November 21, 1908, under the name Unione Sportiva Savoia, by a group of mill and pasta factory industrialists, with the support of other members of the local middle class. The club’s colour is white, symbolising the primary resource of the local economy at the time: flour. The club’s emblem is a stylised Savoy shield.

In the 2025/26 season, Savoia competes in Serie D, striving to reach promotion to Serie C – a dream that is becoming increasingly tangible, as they have been leading their group in recent matches. This season also marks a return to their home ground, the “Alfredo Giraud” stadium. At least four years have passed since the last home game, yet the Oplontini ultras have always been present, supporting Savoia in every division and on every field. Welcoming them back to the renovated stadium are a new stand, a new curva, seats reflecting the club’s white and black colors, Mount Vesuvius embracing the backdrop, and the sea of the Sorrento coast on the opposite side.
Torre Annunziata is a passionate footballing community, both in the distant past and in more recent times. The club’s spell in Serie B was significant and formative, and drawing on those experiences, strengthened by deep-rooted traditions, the “bianchi” have managed to stay the course even in stormy seas.
These images capture the peak moment of support this season – the third-to-last league match against Igea Virtus – and convey all this love, as well as the long-awaited atmosphere of promotion. They also tell of love and remembrance for a devoted ultras member, who passed away just hours before kickoff.“
