Share

In a remarkable tale of redemption, Parma Calcio 1913 has resurged from the ashes of financial turmoil to reclaim its rightful place in the upper echelons of Italian football. Founded in December 1913, the club has long been a symbol of pride and passion in the city of Parma. However, their fortunes took a dramatic turn during the tumultuous period at the end of the 2014-15 season, when financial mismanagement plunged them into crisis, leading to relegation all the way down to Serie D.

Yet, fuelled by resilience and unwavering support from loyal fans, Parma embarked on a remarkable journey of revival. Season after season, they battled their way up the ranks, overcoming adversity with grit and determination. And in a momentous turn of events, Parma secured promotion back to Serie A by clinching the Serie B title, marking their triumphant return to the Italian top flight.

Italian photographer Luigi Di Maso captured the jubilation and community spirit that engulfed Parma as they celebrated their triumphant return to Serie A. Promotion had been secured following a 1-1 draw away at Bari, which set things up perfectly for Di Maso to cover the home match with US Cremonese (1-1, 05/05/24) at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. With an eye and a passion for storytelling, Di Maso expertly focused on the raw emotions that coursed through the fans and around the stadium, documenting the joyous scenes of supporters clad in yellow and blue.

“I was in Parma to cover Parma Calcio’s promotion for the Lega B official social media accounts.

With my photographs I’ve focussed on the connection between the city, the football club and the supporters. Parma Calcio has a great history and heritage in football, and older supporters try to convey this feeling to the new generation.

The city has a wealth of Italian culture, and when we talk about football it is thrilling to see younger fans wearing the oldest jersey of the club.

Seeing Parma Calcio promoted back to Serie A, is a good thing for the Italian football movement.”
