This legacy is furthered through the efforts of Gary Aspden and his adidas SPZL collection, a premium sub-label that celebrates football culture, past and present. Since its inception, adidas SPZL has been known for its careful curation of designs that merge lifestyle and sportswear, drawing inspiration from adidas’ rich heritage while staying on the cutting edge of modern fashion.
This year marks a new chapter for adidas SPZL, with the launch of SPZL F.C., a concept that honours the intersection of football performance and style. SPZL F.C. takes this vision to the next level, introducing club-specific capsule collections for Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and Aberdeen. These capsules pay homage to the history and identity of each club, while infusing a fresh take on football fashion.
Each collection features a pair of bespoke SPZL trainers alongside an accompanying four-piece apparel set. Leeds United’s SPZL F.C. builds on the success of the Elland SPZL from 2020, with a low-profile, white and yellow colourway that nods to the club’s iconic colours. Nottingham Forest’s contribution comes in the form of a green suede Lotherton SPZL, with nods to the club’s historic style. Aberdeen’s edition, meanwhile, draws inspiration from Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous red, white, and navy jacket, celebrating the club’s UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup victory in 1983.
The visual campaign, shot by acclaimed photographer Kevin Cummins, captures the essence of these football giants. Featuring both current players and club legends, including Dan James and Eddie Gray from Leeds United, Ryan Yates and Viv Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Aberdeen’s Leighton Clarkson and Neil Simpson, the campaign showcases the collections in iconic settings: each club’s home ground.
