On Wednesday 21st May 2025, Leeds Central Library will host a special Zine Library Lates event as part of the Voice of the Fans exhibition, with guest speaker, Lower Block founder Matt Lidbury.

Held in the Drawing Room of the Art Library, the event will feature an informal Q&A, who will discuss the process of creating the photo zines, which are an essential part of the foundations of the brand, helping capture the ethos of football culture through photography and aesthetics. The event is free to attend, but booking is required.
“The Lower Block editions are a core part of what we do and what we stand for. They’re about curating powerful photography that captures the culture, lifestyle, and deep-rooted history of football. We keep the zines simple, accessible, and affordable—because it’s important to get this work out into the world, in print and offline. These editions can spark conversations and stir memories. That matters to me in an age when people are becoming increasingly disconnected. Zines have a way of bringing us back together, through shared stories and visual connection.” Said Matt.
The evening will also include zine-making activities, music, and access to the library’s extensive zine collection, as well as the Voice of the Fans exhibition. The exhibition, co-produced by Leeds Libraries and the British Library, celebrates over 60 years of football fanzines and their role in shaping football culture in the UK and Ireland.
“Born out of the DIY ethos of the music and punk scenes, the raw creativity of football zines remains inspiring and relevant in today’s global game.“
