Whether it’s a snapshot from a legendary away day, a cherished matchday programme, or a candid photo from the terraces, each contribution helps to build a lasting legacy for future generations to experience. The 1960s was a transformative decade for football, marked by iconic moments and legendary players. England’s crowning glory came in 1966 when they won the World Cup on home soil at Wembley Stadium, with manager Alf Ramsay masterminding their 4-2 victory over West Germany. Bobby Moore captained the side with grace and determination, while brothers Jack and Bobby Charlton were integral to the team’s success. Geoff Hurst famously scored a hat-trick in the final, while Jimmy Greaves, though sidelined for the final, was one of the most prolific goal scorers of the era. Globally, Brazil’s Pele continued to dazzle with his incredible skills, captivating the world with his performances in multiple World Cups. Around the same time, Northern Ireland’s George Best emerged as a footballing phenomenon, blending flair and rock-star charisma. Football culture in the ’60s was vibrant, with vintage adverts for football boots, razors, and shaving cream reflecting the rise of football as a mainstream part of popular culture, embodying the youthful, stylish energy of the era.
Together, we can ensure that this unique era of football culture is properly documented, preserved and appreciated for years to come. Get involved and share your photographs and memories at hello@lowerblock.com
