Genoa CFC has unveiled a special fourth kit for the 2024/25 season, paying tribute to Boca Juniors on the occasion of their 120th anniversary. Designed by Kappa, the jersey celebrates over a century of connection between the Italian and Argentine clubs, rooted in the Genoese migration to Buenos Aires in the early 1900s.

Boca Juniors, founded on April 3, 1905, by Genoese immigrants, has always maintained a symbolic link to Genoa. The nickname ‘Los Xeneizes’ — meaning ‘the Genoese’ in dialect — is one of many signs of this cultural crossover. To honour this shared story, Genoa and Kappa have collaborated on a kit that draws directly from Boca’s iconic identity.

The jersey boldly embraces Boca Juniors’ traditional colours, featuring a deep navy body accented by a striking yellow horizontal band across the chest. Subtle golden details, a vintage-style polo collar, and ribbed cuffs give the shirt a classic football aesthetic. Genoa’s famous Griffon crest and the Kappa logo both appear in delicate yellow, while the inscription ‘ZENEIXI’ — a Genoese variant of ‘Xeneizes’ — is proudly printed on the back.

Beyond the jersey itself, Genoa CFC has gone further to honour this historic connection. The club launched an emotive campaign shot by photographer Sam Gregg, juxtaposing scenes from Genoa and Buenos Aires to tell the story of two cities linked across oceans. The campaign was presented at the Museum of Italian Emigration (MEI) alongside a curated photographic exhibition and a dedicated video project.

While the design will delight football shirt collectors worldwide, the collaboration represents more than just aesthetics. It speaks to the migratory waves that shaped Buenos Aires, the footballing brotherhood between the two clubs, and the enduring cultural exchange that has left its mark on both communities. The shirt will make its debut in Genoa’s Serie A clash against Juventus on March 29 (2025), adding extra significance to an already anticipated fixture.

With this project, Genoa not only pays homage to Boca Juniors but also reinforces its own global identity, connecting with fans across South America and beyond — a reminder that football’s greatest stories are often those of people, place, and heritage.
